I The Carbanys sono una band composta da cinque giovanissimi ragazzi inglesi di Londra, ovvero Ben, Jack, James, Frankie e Mike, che in Inghilterra sono già considerati i nuovi Rolling Stones.
Il loro potentissimo live al Circolo degli Artisti non è passato inosservato: i cinque ragazzi hanno trascinato con il loro sound il pubblico in visibilio, per un live ricco di rock, frenetico e scalpitante.
I The Carnabys sono la prima band prodotta dall’etichetta Hard Rock Records, facente parte del gruppo Hard Rock International.
Impegnata a sostenere la musica e gli artisti emergenti di tutto il mondo, Hard Rock International nel 2013 ha ospitato più di 26.000 eventi di musica dal vivo in tutto il mondo.
Il brand continua il suo impegno nel sostenere gli artisti emergenti nel 2014 con l’Hard Rock Rising Battle of the Bands, Hard Rock Rising “On the Road” e Battle of the Bands Italia, fornendo una vera e propria fucina per i talenti più interessanti e accattivanti del momento.

Anzitutto, come vi è sembrato suonare a Roma, in Piazza del Popolo, davanti a migliaia di persone? Non è forse il luogo più bello dove poter suonare?
First of all, how did it feel to play in Rome’s Piazza del Popolo, in front of thousands of people? Isn’t the most beautiful place where to play?
Sì è veramente un bel posto. La storia del luogo e la grande area dove si sono immerse moltissime persone, hanno trasformato l’evento in una esperienza elettrica!
Quale artista vi ha colpito durante l’Hard Rock Live in Roma?

Ci sono piaciuti i The Fratellis, siamo dei loro grandi fan! Naturalmente anche i Negramaro sono grandi. Ovunque andiamo, quando diciamo che sosteniamo i Negramaro, ci approvano con uno “Wow!”
Yeah it was cool, knowing the history of the ‘venue’ and having such a large area filled with people made it an electric experience!
We enjoyed watching The Fratellis, we’re big fans! And of course Negramaro are so big!
Everywhere we went, when we said that we were supporting Negramaro they were like “Wow!”.

Le persone, si sentono coinvolte già dalla prima nota. Gli italiani sono molto accoglienti e aperti.
Torneremo in Italia il 3 settembre come supporter ai Blondie al Circolo Magnolia di Milano.
A Roma l’architettura è così impressionante, come ad esempio quella del Colosseo, che incute quasi timore. Anche a Londra abbiamo vecchi edifici, ma nulla del genere.

Siete una giovanissima band: forse il più grande di voi ha 21 anni. Come ci si sente a vivere l’esperienza da rock star?
You are a very young band, perhaps the greatest of you is 21 years old. How does it feel to experience the rock star?
In realtà abbiamo tutti 20 anni ed amiamo ogni esperienza.
Ci sentiamo privilegiati nel fare quello che stiamo facendo alla nostra età, il duro lavoro paga.
Actually we’re all 20, and loving every experience.
We feel privileged to be doing what we’re doing at our age, hard work pays off eh!
Nel 2013 avete vinto l’Hard Rock Rising, la Battle of The Bands mondiale, trionfanti tra 12.000 band partecipanti. Qual è il vostro segreto?
In 2013 you won the Hard Rock Rising, the Battle of The Bands world, triumphant among 12,000 participants. What is your secret?
Lavorare sodo e fare in modo che vi piaccia il nostro lavoro.
Siamo tutti d’accordo nell’affermare che abbiamo lavorato moltissimo anche al di là della gara, ottenendo voti e assicurandoci di essere bravi anche nelle esecuzioni dal vivo, ma soprattutto ci siamo divertiti e tutti sapevano che ci stavamo divertendo, siamo stati genuini e ci hanno amato per la musica e le nostre esibizioni.
Abbiamo un detto: “Più si lavora sodo e più è facile ottenere ciò che si desidera”.
Hard work and making sure you enjoy it!
We all agree that we worked our arses off in the competition, getting votes and making sure we were good live, but the fact that we enjoyed it, and everyone knew we were enjoying it, showed that we genuinely want and love music and performing.
We thick “the harder you work, the luckier you get”.
Quali sono gli artisti a cui vi ispirate? O quale musica vi piace ascoltare?
Who are the artists that inspired you? Or what music you like to listen?
Ascoltiamo di tutto! Dall’Hip Hop al Rock, al Funk, al Blues, al Jazz, ma penso che come band, riguardo il nostro sound, principalmente le nostre influenze arrivano dagli Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon e da altre band con chitarre brillanti. Noi amiamo anche i vecchi artisti, come i The Who e quei grandi artisti che sono stati l’anima degli anni ’70 e ’80.
We listen to everything!
From hip hop to rock, to funk, to blues, to jazz, but I think as a band in terms of our sound, we mainly take influence from the Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon, and other brilliant guitar bands. We love old artists as well; the Who as well as those great soul artists of the 70’s and 80’s.
I vostri live sono davvero potenti e trascinanti: difficile restare fermi e non ballare. La vostra musica è coinvolgente ed intensa, tanto da ricordare le star che negli anni ’60 – ’70 hanno lanciato definitivamente il rock’n’ roll. Molti vi ritengono i nuovi Rolling Stones: vi ritrovate in ciò?
Your live are really powerful and enthralling: the audience jumping and dancing. Your music is addictive and intense, so much to remember the star who in the ’60s – ’70s have finally launched the rock ‘n’ roll. Many will consider the new Rolling Stones: you find yourself in this?
Beh, prendiamo spunto da molti performer più grandi e con notevole esperienza, anche in termini di prestazioni, persone come Mick Jagger, James Brown e Robert Plant sono stati dei performer brillanti, quindi per la dimensione live attingiamo da loro, così come su disco.
Non direi che siamo il nuovo nulla, siamo i The Carnabys!
Well we take a lot of influence from older acts as well in terms of performance, people like Mick Jagger, James Brown and Robert Plant were brilliant performers, so from a live aspect we look up to them as well as on record.
I wouldn’t say we’re the new anything, we’re The Carnabys!
Lo scorso anno avete suonato prima di Bruce Springsteen all’Hard Rock Calling di Londra, pochi giorni fa invece siete stati nella line up all’ Isle of Wight Festival, mentre a fine giugno avete aperto il concerto londinese di Blondie. Artisti fantastici dai quali si può carpire qualche segreto, non trovate?
Last year you played before Bruce Springsteen at Hard Rock Calling in London, a few days ago instead you have been in the line up to ‘Isle of Wight Festival, and in late June have opened the London concert Blondie. Fantastic artists from whom you can steal some secret, don’t you think?

Da quando ci abbiamo messo piede dalla prima volta abbiamo spinto sempre di più noi stessi a fare meglio con le nostre canzoni e le prestazioni, così siamo arrivati a suonare al IOW Festival, come band supporter dei Blondie.
E’ stato tutto davvero fantastico per noi.
Tendiamo ad acquisire esperienza da chiunque possiamo, ogni piccolo particolare aiuta. A luglio abbiamo suonato prima di Patti Smith!
Yeah Hard Rock Calling was great!
For me that was us putting our foot in the door, from then on we’ve been pushing ourselves to get better and better with our song writing and performance, which is how we got to play the IOW Festival and support Blondie.
It’s all been really good for us.
And yeah, we tend to gain experience and pointers from whoever we can… every little helps… and in July we support Patti Smith!
A giugno è uscito il vostro primo singolo “The Pocket”, mentre il vostro album di debutto, “No Money on The Moon”, è atteso per l’autunno 2014. Quanto siete emozionati per questo grande passo?
In June, was released your first single “The Pocket,” and your debut album, “No Money On The Moon”, is expected for autumn 2014. How much are you excited for this big step?
“The Pocket” è disponibile su iTunes ora, mentre il nostro album uscirà in autunno, sono solo davvero impaziente di farlo conoscere alle persone e conoscere quelle persone che ascolteranno la nostra musica, cantando ogni singola parola ai nostri concerti.
Yeah ‘The Pocket’ is available on iTunes now, and our album will be out in the Autumn, I’m just really looking forward to people knowing our music inside out, and singing every word at our shows.
